The capacity to carry, refuel and stow a helicopter and deploy large long-range tenders with ease is central to the concept of PLANET NINE. Given its range and versatility, a helicopter offers an extra dimension to cruising and allows you to visit and explore destinations on land and sea that might otherwise be impossible to reach. Whether for exploration, sports or sightseeing, the variety of options available is more exciting and fulfilling. Check out the short video below showing the MD 600 landing and being stored in the hangar.

HELICOPTER, HELIDECK AND GARAGE

PLANET NINE is one of a kind. Very few if any yachts in her class offer the same scope and flexibility. She has a commercially approved helideck and a helicopter hangar suitable (in terms of dimensions) for an Agusta Grand A109 or a helicopter with a larger engine and a maximum weight of 3.5 tons. Currently she carries a MD 600.
Below the upper deck there is an enclosed hangar with a hydraulic platform. The deck/hangar facility is designed to be capable of handling two helicopters (one in the hangar and one on deck) and includes a refueling facility with storage for 8000 liters of fuel.

TENDERS AND TOYS

PLANET NINE carries five tenders and two Ski Doos. Comfortable as guest tenders and excellent scout boats, her two custom-built 34’ / 10.20m Rupert RIB tenders are reliable with long range.
One is the Limousine version and the other has a center console. Both are powered by Volvo stern drive engines with dual props. Specifically chosen during the build of PLANET NINE, RUPERT RIBs have superior seakeeping, tolerate heavy use and are economical to operate and maintain. Since delivery, the Ruperts have been deployed in all weather conditions at very different latitudes, from the Maldives to Antarctica.

The Ruperts are stowed in bays port and starboard on the main deck aft. They are launched using Hydromar Cramm cranes, SWL 4000kg each. The Ruperts have 440hp and can reach a top speed of 40 knots. Both are equipped with 2 x 250 liter fuel tanks.

The 5.85 m / 19’ Zodiac is a Milpro Mark 5, the best expedition tender used in Antarctica. She can carry up to 15 people and has a 115hp Yamaha outboard engine giving a top speed of about 29 knots.
The crew tender is a dark grey 6m / 20’ Rupert Marine RIB with 170 hp carrying 300 liters of fuel in a single tank. She is stored in the portside lower deck garage and launched using a Hydromar/Cramm, 1650 kg SWL crane.

PLANET NINE also carries an SV-480 S.O.L.A.S. approved rescue boat (4,80m / 16’) manufactured by Narwhal. She is stored on the foredeck together with the Zodiac. Both are launched using a Hydromar/Cramm SeaLift, 1000kg SWL crane.
The summer sport toys include two 2018 Spark SeaDoos. Light and compact they are highly efficient and low-cost maintenance. Plus, loads of water toys, SUP’s, seabobs, inflatables, a jungle gym, trampoline, and rafts.

Helicopter refueling and storage operations are designed to be easy and fast. Refueling takes approximately 20 minutes. The MD 600 can be stored in the garage or be airborne in approximately 1 hour.
